The picture published by Madad News Agency, a jihadist group reporting from Yemen, came in the second issue of Madad’s news report on the activities of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and its elements who call themselves “Ansar al-Shariah,” which was posted on jihadist forums on November 20, 2011. The picture shows Anwar al-Awlaki holding a weapon and standing in a desert. The news item regarding his killing paraphrases AQAP’s confirmation of al-Awlaki's death, and also includes pictures of the other men killed with them, Samir Khan, Muhammad Muhsin (Abu Muhsin al-Maribi) and Salim ‘Arfaj (Salim al-Marwani). Other news items include the suicide bombing in Aden on September 27th that targeted Yemeni Defense Minister Muhammad Nasser Ahmed, and a picture of the bomber, Abdul Rahman al-Adeni; strikes against enemy military forces, pilots, and spies in Abyan, Aden, and Hadramawt; and a description of an Ansar al-Shariah video titled, “Go, You are Free,” that shows the release of Yemeni soldiers after their capture.
