Help! One of the best products that I’ve ever tested costs $3999!

This past week I attended Segway Ninebot’s launch event to show off its latest products, which included a bunch of electric scooters and a very awesome electric go-kart.

You may know the Segway brand for its famous two-wheeled, self-balancing personal transportation vehicles. Now, it’s better known as ‘Segway Ninebot’, which has become a leading brand in the e-scooter industry.

Personally, I’m not a stranger to seeing e-scooters zipping down the footpath. I live on the Gold Coast where they are legal and have become a popular and convenient form of transportation. Or at least, that’s what I’ve assumed, because I’ve personally never owned one. I have, however, tried other self-balancing boards such as hoverboards and OneWheels. Scooters never appealed to me, until now.

It seems that once you try an e-scooter there’s no going back, because now I have tested at least nine different Segway Ninebot electric scooters, all with different speeds and features and I’m hooked.

The ease of balance, the little kick of acceleration you get as you push off for the first time, and the breeze in your hair. Even though you’re just holding on to some handlebars, they are, in fact, really fun.

I tried so many, including the electric go-kart which I’ll get to later, but I want to draw your attention to my standout favourites of the lot.

Which e-scooter should you buy?

Firstly, I really enjoyed testing the Segway Ninebot “kids scooter”, which I’m sure could be easily overlooked if you’re shopping for yourself as an adult. The eKickScooter ZING C20, is aimed at kids and teenagers as a simple ‘slow and safe’ commuter, that’s also fun to ride and will, obviously, get you there faster than a push scooter.

It lacks many of the impressive features that Segway Ninebot has to offer in the more expensive models but its strong points are that it’s just fast enough to be enjoyable, folds in half and is just light enough to carry short distances.

Once you get above this model to the E2 series, the ‘adult’ commuter range, they do get a little bulkier and heavier.

So I suppose, if you’re not somewhat small in stature and weight, like me, you probably can’t consider the kids’ range and will be better suited to the adult-sized entry level E2 models. Though if you have the cash, I’d probably recommend starting with an F Series scooter. Make sure to do a comparison of the specs, but they likely have a longer range, more durable build, and have a quicker takeoff speed, which is extra fun.

Segway Ninebot KickScooter MAX G2

The $1699 MAX G2 was probably the standout of all the options available. It has a brushless motor, rear-wheel drive, self-healing tyres that can withstand small punctures, a 70km range and front and rear hydraulic suspension.

After testing so many scooters, I found that suspension, speed and range are probably the most notable things to consider when purchasing a scooter, aside from portability. Unless, you just want to have a crazy, fun, time and throw all considerations out the window and buy the Segway Ninebot Go Kart.

Testing the Segway Ninebot go-kart Pro Lamborghini Edition

Honestly, nothing matters to me now except thinking about the time I had with the Segway Ninebot go-kart Pro (Lamborghini Edition). Yep, technically, I drove a Lambo and it felt as good as I could imagine.

It has a max speed of 40km/h but I only took it up to the legal speed of 25km/h and it felt incredibly fast. All my Mario Kart fantasies came true while tearing up the pavement and even the surrounding grass, and I almost got some drifting in.

I felt like a kid again especially with its built-in speakers which, hilariously, play engine sounds which I actually loved. Additionally, I believe you can also use them to play your own music. And as an awesome bonus, the go-kart can be quickly pulled apart to reveal that the back wheels are actually made from a Ninebot S Max self-balancing Segway, which can be enjoyed on its own.

So, what am I to do about it costing $3999? For now, I’m not sure, as it’s out of my budget, but I do feel that one of these Segway Ninebots will be making a dent in my bank account soon.
