Designer, military suppliers bring Boba Fett’s iconic battle armour to life
THIS is a step beyond cosplay: a team of designers has recreated Boba Fett’s iconic battle armour for real-life soldiers (and interstellar bounty hunters).
NOW this is what all self-respecting interstellar bounty hunters would want to be seen dead in: Boba Fett iconic battle armour just got real.
One devoted fan has managed to convince a swath of military manufacturers to give substance to his Star Wars dreams — and create a truly combat-capable replica outfit.
Designer Ryan Flowers has collaborated with military armourers and gun manufacturers to create the fully-functional,bulletproof battle armour.
Named the ‘GalacTac project’, the idea also inspired contribution from knife, headset and helmet manufacturers.
“Galac-Tac is a culmination of my love for all things science fiction and tactical apparel and armour,” designer Ryan Flowers says on his website. “My goal was to combine these two passions into a futuristic yet functional battle armour and helmet (hybrid).”
What this means is the armour is for real.
Formed from laminated steel plates attached to a light lattice frame, it is reportedly resistant to rifle and handgun fire.
It even comes in a range of fashionable colours (at least to enthusiasts).
Accessories include items such as a helmet-mounted night vision scope, radio equipment and conformal knives and holsters.
Orders for the helmet or the complete kit can be placed on his website, gal-tac.com — local laws permitting.
