IF YOU are still struggling to live up to your New Year’s resolution of working out to lose those extra kilos, you might not have found the right program from your needs.

While some people are happy to flex their pecs in front of a mirror and others content with putting on some joggers and hitting the pavement, these methods are not for everyone.

It’s for this reason many new fitness trends like yoga with goats, pole dancing and CrossFit have emerged over recent years.

The latest fitness trend that could be the solution to your New Year’s goal is something known as “Black Box”.

Created by Ryan DeLuca and Preston Lewis — founders of bodybuilding.com — the workout system combines resistance training, gaming principles and high intensity cardio with virtual reality.

As the name suggests, patrons work out in a literal black box where they put on a HTC Vive VR headset and motion-tracking forearm bands.

Once the custom fitness headset is on, an entire new world will be created around them and they are taken through an experience which promises a full body workout.

“Black Box VR will integrate resistance training through an electronically controlled cable system which will be seamlessly integrated into the game experience. Reach out to grab that rope or lift the handles on that object and you’ll feel real cables, set to the exact resistance that you need. Functional fitness in a fictional word,” the company explained.

“Only three Black Box experiences a week at 40 minutes each will be enough to increase your strength, endurance, and health while shaping your body in all new ways to help you achieve the body you’ve always wanted.”

Even more interesting is the company claims Black Box VR includes artificial intelligence to progress your fitness goals.

“Machine learning modules intelligently take you from where you are now to where you want to be,” the company explained.

“You’ll effortlessly learn perfect form to get the most from each experience and to stay injury-free, using advanced tracking in your virtual reality fitness experience.”

As Black Box VR will open flagship gyms in Manhattan and Beverly Hills and then expand from there, you sadly won’t be able to use it in Australia anytime soon.

That said, it’s hard to think why anyone would want to use a virtual reality gym given the technology is prone to give users motion sickness and this doesn’t even take into account how you would handle sweating in the mask.
