Research has found the Apple logo is not as recognisable as you would first imagine

WE ALL see the Apple logo every single day. It should be burned into our brains for good by now. But it turns out nobody knows what the thing looks like.

APPLE may be one of the biggest brands in the world, but it would appear their logo leaves a lot to be desired.

This is according to a UCLA study which found people struggled to remember what the Apple logo looks like.

For the study, researchers asked 85 students to draw the iconic image from memory.

Out of the participants, only seven were able to draw the logo without major errors and just one person was able to reproduce it accurately.

This was surprising given 89 per cent of those involved in the study said they were Apple users.

It wasn’t just drawing the logo that posed a problem either.

When the students were asked to pinpoint the logo among a collection of fabrications, only 47 per cent could locate the correct image.

Researchers found while Apple users did slightly better in this instance, there was “not a significant difference.”

Summarising the results, the researchers said the study supports the theory that constant exposure to a logo doesn’t mean it can be recalled photographically.

“People’s memory, even for extremely common objects, is much poorer than they believe it to be,” the researchers wrote.

“Attention and memory are not always tuned to remembering what we may think is memorable.”
