FIU Bridge Collapse Caught on Dash Cam

A HEART-STOPPING video taken on the dash cam of a car captured the moment the Florida International University bridge collapsed on top of traffic last week, killing six people.

In the footage a man can be seen walking on the top left corner of the bridge just seconds before it comes tumbling down, showing him falling to the ground where he disappears into the rubble.

Several drivers can be seen getting out of their car and rushing towards the bridge to help those caught in the collapse.

Authorities released the names of all six victims, with five bodies being pulled from crushed cars and one man later dying in hospital.

Police confirmed the deaths of Ronaldo Fraga Hernandez, Oswald Gonzalez, Alberto Arias, Navaro Brown, Brandon Brownfield and Alexa Duran.

Hundreds of Florida International University students held a vigil Wednesday to remember the people who died as a result of the collapse.

The names of the victims were displayed on a screen inside a ballroom at the Miami-area school.

Loud gasps and crying could be heard from the crowd when the name of FIU student Alexa Duran appeared on the screen.

Federal investigators say they’ve confirmed that workers were adjusting a tension rod on a newly installed portion of the bridge when it collapsed on the busy highway

The $14.2 million pedestrian bridge was supposed to open in 2019 as a safe way for students to cross the busy road. It linked the community of Sweetwater with the campus of Florida International University.
