A MASSIVE tech campus set to be built in San Jose, USA has sparked mystery and rumours a plenty over who owns it.

The green light has been given to a massive new office complex — the largest the city of San Jose has ever seen — but city officials and the developer aren’t revealing the name of the technology company that will occupy it.

The San Jose Mercury News reports the city approved the project on Wednesday. The two million square foot project with space for 8,000 to 10,000 employees spread out over ten seven-storey buildings will be twice the size of Facebook’s Menlo Park campus and cost over $700 million to construct.

The developer, Peery-Arrillaga, confirms that it has a company committed to leasing the buildings. But it declined further comment to the Mercury News.

Could one of Silicon Valley’s tech titans such as Google or Apple be moving or expanding from a nearby suburb? Did an out-of-towner like Microsoft or Amazon finally come to its senses and ditch Seattle?

San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed said he knows the identity of the company, and says it’s in the technology sector. But he said he would respect the developer’s wishes and not reveal the name.

Construction is expected to start this year and theories will continue as to who will be moving in. Doesn’t WhatsApp have a spare couple of dollars these days?
