STREAMING service Presto has secured a major content coup, scoring hit US apocalyptic zombie show The Walking Dead.

The first three seasons of the show will be available from today (Friday) with the fourth season available from April 14. The fifth season, which just finished on Foxtel, will be added later in the year.

The full seasons will also be available on Foxtel’s Anytime service.

After a slow start, The Walking Dead became the most watched cable TV show in US history.

It follows a group of survivors of a zombie outbreak, lead by Brit star Andrew Lincoln, who plays a small town sheriff who wakes in hospital to discover a zombie plague has destroyed society.

Presto’s deal makes it a frontrunner to also secure the much anticipated Walking Dead prequel Fear the Walking Dead, which takes place in the same universe as The Walking Dead, but follows a different set of characters, and is set in Los Angeles rather than the US South of the original show.

The prequel is the subject of hot competition among Australian streaming services.

Presto director Shaun James said securing The Walking Dead was proof Presto was “assembling one of the strongest content offerings and most agile services available anywhere in the world.”

“We know The Walking Dead is a pop culture phenomenon and one of the biggest ‘must see dramas series’ of our generation and has been highly sought after by every subscription On Demand service in Australia,” he said.

The Walking Dead joins other top-flight US drama offered by Presto, including The Sopranos, The Americans, Boardwalk Empire, Entourage and Ray Donovan.

Presto’s TV or movie service is available for $9.99 a month, or a bundle of both for $14.99.

Presto is an initiative of Foxtel, part owned by News Corp. publisher of this website.
