‘Revamped’ Apple TV set to be entertainment hub

APPLE is finally gearing up to invade your living room.
The Cupertino, Calif.-based tech giant is set to radically expand the capabilities of the Apple TV, a once-sleepy set-top box that will be relaunched as a richly featured home-entertainment hub, insiders said.
With an entirely new operating system, the Apple TV will be hoisted up to the level of the iPhone as a major platform for third-party apps, according to reports.
The announcement is expected to come at Apple’s Wednesday event, which will also prominently feature the latest 6S model of the iPhone.
In addition to watching movies and TV shows, the revamped Apple TV will become a platform for playing games with the help of a souped-up processor.
Insiders suspect that the Apple TV is getting groomed as a potential rival to Microsoft’s Xbox and Sony’s PlayStation, according to reports.
Apple raised eyebrows last week when it launched a new Twitter account, App Store Games, tweeting about titles like “Sword & Sorcery” and “Walking Dead.”
Siri, the voice-activated concierge for the iPhone, will also make her debut on the Apple TV, according to multiple reports.
To facilitate this, the Apple TV’s remote control will get a microphone (so users can bark commands from the couch like, “Siri, play ‘Game of Thrones’ ”).
The remote will also be equipped with accelerometers that could allow users to navigate features as well as play video games by tilting, swinging and shaking the device, according to reports.
