Reports suggest new Apple TV is coming soon
WITH the way consumers are watching TV changing, Apple is about to release a new Apple TV to own your living room.
APPLE may be getting a new version of its Apple TV hardware ready for a June announcement.
Sources close to BuzzFeed news said that the new set-top box will be a significant overhaul of the current version of Apple TV.
The report says Apple will announce the updated device at its World Wide Developers Conference this June, along with an App Store and a dedicated software development kit. Apple recently unveiled WatchKit, the SDK for its upcoming Apple Watch.
The version available currently just saw its price cut from $99 to $69 during Apple’s live event, in conjunction with the announcement that HBO NOW will be an exclusive digital partner with Apple.
The Cupertino, CA based company has been busy as of late. Along with its Apple Watch, the company premiered a new MacBook, which it claims is its lightest computer ever. It also updated iOS to support the Apple Watch, which is set to release on April 24.
It’s been a long time since Apple has done much of anything with its set-top box, so if Apple continues to support the Apple TV line, its in serious need of an overhaul. Competing devices like the Roku, Fire TV, and Chrome Stick over similar functionality at a competitive cost, so if Apple wants to stay relevant in the set top box consumer space it will need to strike a balance between features and price.
