LG launches its new 4K OLED televisions in Australia
IN THE market for a new TV? Luckily for you, the future of television technology is launching Australia this week.
THE future of TV is finally here. LG announced this afternoon that its next generation of TVs with OLED and 4K technology will finally be available from this week in Australia.
OLED (organic light-emitting diode) has been pinned by experts as the future of TV, with its ability to create richer colours and deeper blacks than traditional LED or LCD TV units.
Only LG has been able to produce the amount of OLED displays needed to sell them to consumers at an affordable price.
Put simply, OLED’s back-lighting is achieved by putting electricity through organic materials that light up as a specific colour. No other technology does this directly, and it produces significantly better colour, blacks and contrast than other display types. It also allows TVs to be thinner, a feature evident in LGs latest range, which was shown off today.
For the first time in Australia, the new TVs will bring OLED technology with 4K resolution, which is four times the resolution of a standard full high definition TV set. This means TVs will be sharper and more colourful than ever.
Being an internet-connected smart TV, the new sets will also benefit from having streaming service Netflix already installed.
But if you want the best, you will have to pay for it.
The new range of 4K OLED displays will set you back $5999 for the smaller 55-inch model or $9999 for the flagship 65-inch model. Available from this week, the TVs will be exclusive to Harvey Norman for a short period before popping up in other electronic stores and online.
Consumers are taking to 4K quickly, with LG telling news.com.au that the market has grown 262 per cent over the past year. It expects 50 per cent of TVs sold by the end of the year to be 4K sets.
