The best games you can buy: April 2014 edition
WHETHER you’re a fan of shooters, racers, sports games or adventure, these are the games you should spend your money on.
WHETHER you’re a fan of shooters, racers, sports games or adventure, the release of next-generation consoles at the end of last year has brought along dozens of fantastic games. So what ones should you be spending your money on?
InFAMOUS: Second Son — M — PS4
The third game in the inFAMOUS series, based six years after its predecessor, you play as a character who has a unique ability of Power Absorption, which results in the general public and government dubbing him as a “bioterrorist” like others with the ability. The game is an open-world adventure game that is fun from start to finish. It separates itself from similar games by letting you pick your path of good or evil, top that with brilliant graphics, enthralling story and we have a game of the year contender.
Titanfall — MA — Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC
Made by the guys who created the good Call of Duty games, Titanfall gets you playing inside giant fighting robots in a battlefield from the future. How could that not be fun? The game is built around multiplayer, and is the only way you can play, which is a great thing. This results in you watching a brilliant clip that draws you into the game then rips you back out into a battlefield fighting against a real person. You’re a Call of Duty, Halo and Battlefield fan? Great, grab this game.
Assasin’s Creed IV: Black Flag — MA — All consoles and PC
This game may have come out in October last year, but nonetheless it’s still one of the best games on the market. Black Flag takes you to the ocean, bringing with it naval combat that complements on-foot missions fantastically. On the Xbox One and PS4 variants, the games visuals are particularly impressive and has a genuinely interesting story that gives a new perspective on pirates.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition — MA — PS4 and Xbox One
The latest game in one of the longest running franchises of all time, the Definitive Edition delivers. Jaw dropping visuals, the fantastic character development, exciting combat and the gorgeous, serene environment that perfectly contrasts the fighting makes this game a must buy for all Xbox One and PS4 owners.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes — MA — PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360
Like Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid feels like it has been around since the dawn of time, and is back on next-gen consoles looking better than ever. The latest instalment continues with the franchise’s strengths, bringing intense stealth gameplay and the best cutscenes from any video game that really make you feel like you’re playing a character in a movie. Campaign is unsurprisingly short, but makes up for it with a new open-world format.
Rayman Legends — G — All Consoles
If the other games on the list are a bit too violent for you, then Rayman Legends will satisfy your needs. It’s a 2D platform game that still manages to have impressive visuals and brilliant map design. The characters are quirky, the challenges are genuinely challenging and there’s a whole heap of game to keep you entertained for hours on end.
