Spending too long behind the computer screen is a serious problem

IT’S the tech mistake we’re all making and can lead to serious health problems like depression and anxiety. So what is it?

Time to take a break.
Time to take a break.

WHEN it comes to technology, some of us are guilty of making mistakes like posting too many photos no one cares about on Facebook, while others many not have installed that all important virus protection.

But there’s one mistake that we’re all probably making, and you could be doing it right now.

Experts say that we aren’t taking enough time away from the computer screen, and this can cause some big health issues.

The main one being a condition called Screen Apnea where, as you begin to stare at your computer screen, you hold your breath and literally stop breathing, cutting your oxygen supply to your brain.

Another condition related to staring at a screen is called Present Shock, this means you are constantly “in the moment” while you’re browsing news sites, reading tweets and lurking your crushes Facebook pictures. This constant flow of information can actually cause you stress, make you agitated and even lead to depression.

Let’s not forget that spending too long just sitting around and surfing the web isn’t fantastic for you either, you should be getting up and moving around a lot more.

Of course, there’s some simple ways to help yourself if you feel like you could be susceptible to these issues like setting yourself time limits on the computer or schedule in regular breaks to go for a walk and take your eyes away from the screen.
