Television technology has gone into overdrive this year with major players all announcing a line-up of 4K and Ultra HD models that deliver four times the picture resolution of the best Full HD TVs currently available. While the image quality is staggering, so are the price tags with many, like Sony's 55-inch set, ringing in at $4,800.

While we're yet to see how good the actual screen is, Kogan's offering sure is tempting by being cheaper than most of the current crop of standard HD sets on the market.

Ruslan Kogan, founder and CEO of Kogan.com said: "We want to make the latest technology more affordable for everyone, which is why we've designed a 55" Ultra High Definition Smart LED TV for under $1000.

"The real innovation here is the price. Generally it's Australians who look at prices of technology overseas with envy. For once, it's now the rest of the world looking to Australia, wondering when this Kogan TV will be available in their country ... stay tuned."

The LED smart TV is powered by Android and features wi-fi, USB and a Micro SD ports, plus the ability to upscale Blu-ray and DVDs from standard HD to UHD's spanking image quality.

We cannot wait to get our eyes on it.
