HTC’s Power To Give wants to use your phone to power science projects

SCIENTISTS are hoping to use your charging mobile phone to create a supercomputer and help accelerate research projects by years.

Your mobile could play an important part in powering the next breakthrough in science.

HTC is launching Power To Give which lets HTC owners power important science research projects while they charge their phone at night.

This potentially world-changing initiative will use HTC handsets all over the world as well as other Android devices to help accelerate science projects by years.

It works by users connecting to a WiFi network, downloading the Power To Give app from the Google Play Store on their Android device, plugging their phone into a charger and simply leaving it while you sleep, letting you help make a difference on the world by turning on the app. While charging your phone, tasks are sent to your phone and processed before being sent back to the researchers lab — when that power is used with the power of other phones around the world it can create the same amount of power as supercomputers, saving important time and money for researchers.

The project will help research projects that involve space research, medical research including disease fighting and also climate change.

According to HTC, one thing that limits researchers and scientists is their access to powerful computers and the time it takes for data to be processed on their current computers — this project if successful can fix this to change the lives of billions. The company says it’s “the worlds largest computer volunteer initiative to answer the worlds largest questions”.

If you want to make a change and own an HTC device, just search the Google Play Store now and download the Power To Give app.
