MICROSOFT has unveiled the specs for the long-awaited Project Scorpio device, but some fans have been left wanting more.
In a very unusual move, the company revealed some details about the new souped-up 4K Xbox console in a collaboration with tech publication Digital Foundry.
In addition to the new Xbox One S, Project Scorpio is for the really serious gaming enthusiast, offering the highest specs of console on the market to support both 4K gaming and high fidelity VR.
The gist of the hardware details, and how they compare with other major consoles on the market, can be seen in the table below.
While the cost is unknown, Digital Foundry speculates that the system will sell for $US499 — the launch price of the Xbox One in 2013.
But some were left more than a little underwhelmed by the semi announcement which only included some vague design pictures and spec details.
So Microsoft hasnât actually unveiled a new Xbox but released specs and photos of its chip and circuitboard? Huh. Ok. #projectscorpio

I think certain people are getting ahead of themselves about the Xbox Scorpio. There's still a lot we don't know (i.e. cost, games, etc).

Microsoft has been teasing the new super powerful version of its console since last year’s E3 event.
“If you got into a consumer electronics shop, you see people are starting to buy 4K TVs and this motion is why we decided to put a couple of new products on the market,” Phil Spencer told news.com.au at the event in June.
