The South Park game is more difficult if your character is black

THE new South Park game is more difficult if your character is black and people aren’t quite sure how to react.

Is this the world's most offensive video game?

THE creators of adult cartoon South Park are known for their biting social commentary and they’ve even managed to sneak some into the upcoming South Park game for PC, PlayStation and Xbox One.

The duo behind the popular show have revealed the game is made to be more difficult if the character you’re playing with is black, and conversely much easier if the character is white.

“Don’t worry, this doesn’t affect combat. Just every other aspect of your whole life,” character Eric Cartman tells the player.

For the most past, all games let players choose the level of difficulty but this is believed to be the first game to use the mechanism to make a controversial statement about race.

The game, which is due out next month, is called South Park: The Fractured But Whole and as you can probably guess from the title, it certainly isn’t concerned about being politically correct.

The premise of the game is the town’s children are engaged in a live-action role-playing game based around superheroes and supervillains, with the player assuming the role of “the new kid” at the town’s school who can bridge the gap between the divided “franchises” of South Park’s superheroes.

News.com.au got its hands on a demo of the game earlier this year at the E3 event, and there’s little doubt it will be one of the year’s most offensive games.

Ostensibly, the racially-based difficulty slider is the kind of satire the South Park creators are known for. But in a country where race is never far from the conversation, the idea has received a mixed reaction on social media with some fans not quite knowing how to feel about it.
