VIRTUAL reality gaming used to be nothing more than a distant dream for consumers, but thankfully the wait is almost over.

PlayStation has finally announced it will only be a matter of months before the world of gaming will be revolutionised forever.

Using its E3 showcase, the gaming company said it would be releasing its PlayStation VR Headset to the world on October 13.

Costing $549.95 for the headset alone and an additional $89.95 needed to purchase a PlayStation Camera means the ability to enter fully immersive worlds from the comfort of your home won’t come cheap.

However, with PlayStation boasting an impressive 50 titles to be on the platform by the end of the year, it might just be worth the investment.

Topping the list of VR titles showcased by PlayStation was Resident Evil 7.

A trailer of the game shows players exploring an abandoned house, trying to find a way out before the sun sets.

While not giving too much away, Sony has said the game is a thrilling, immersive horror experiences to tantalise all of the players senses.

“Photo realistic graphics of the cutting-edge RE Engine mark a new beginning for survival horror. Enter a terrifyingly new world of horror and survive,” Sony described on its website

In addition to Resident Evil, PlayStation has announced a VR version of Batman: Arkham, Final Fantasy and Star Wars: Battlefront X-Wing VR Mission.

While these titles are obviously landmark announcements, there are a number of other independent VR games that will be offered to consumers.

Unfortunately, not all of these are good with some of the demos on offer at E3 missing the mark.

That said, there will likely be more than enough to keep people occupied for the immediate future.

If you’re willing to spend the money, you’re going to have a serious good time.
