Everything you need to know about Monopoly: Fortnite
INSPIRED by the popular video game, Monopoly has released a new version of the iconic board game with a whole new objective for players.
MONOPOLY is quite possibly the most iconic board game of all time, it’s been causing tension between players since its inception in 1935.
But now, the latest edition of the classic game will attract a new crowd.
Monopoly: Fortnite Edition has been released and the game brings the best of both the board game and the hugely popular video game.
WHAT’S NEW?
It’s not about how many properties you have, it’s about how long you can survive, the last player standing wins. Players battle their opponents, claim locations and avoid the storm.
The game includes playing pieces, 15 Storm cards, 16 location cards, 16 loot chest cards, 8 Wall cards, 1 numbered die, 1 action die with labels, 110 Health Point chips and a guide to settle any disputes.
The locations players can claim are inspired by the Fortnite game, as are loot chest cards.
No top hats, thimbles or race cars, Monopoly: Fortnite allows players to choose characters and outfits. The game comes with pawn stands and 27 cardboard outfits players can choose from.
Players need to earn Health Points instead of Monopoly money and instead of picking up $200 when you pass “go”, players get to unleash a storm which opponents have to avoid or they lose Health Points.
You use loot chest items and the action die to battle opponents
The game is recommended for 13 years and older and two to seven players can play.
The game is available now, just in time for the holiday season.
WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK OF THE GAME?
The game has received some pretty good reviews, one reviewer on Amazon said the hybrid game is better than the original Monopoly.
“They game is completely different from the traditional monopoly game. and I loved it. My friend and I played this game 5 or 6 times in one sitting,” the review said.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Monopoly has used another popular brand or name to give the board game a fresh look. Star Wars, Stranger Things and Mario Kart have all been monopolised. Hasbro has also released versions such as Monopoly: Jackpot and Monopoly: Cheaters Edition.
WHY FORTNITE?
Fortnite is hugely popular, over 125 million people play the game around the world.
Fortnite: Battle Royale is a free version of the game and is separate from the original Fortnite game.
The fact the game is free could be contributed to it’s successful, but it seems as though Fortnite is just straight up addictive.
Children all around the world are hooked on the game and it’s driving some parents crazy, while other parents are literally paying for Fortnite tutors. Marriages have literally fallen apart thanks to Fortnite and a 45-year-old man threatened to shoot an 11-year-old for killing him in the game. It’s probably safe to assume the board game will be a popular stocking filler this Christmas.
WHAT IS FORTNITE?
Just like Monopoly’s take on the game, you got to be the last player alive, think of it like The Hunger Games.
And yes, players run around trying to kill each other because the winner takes all. Once you die, you’re out.
However there’s more to it than guns, there’s an emphasis on crafting things like walls and ramps to protect yourself.
You can download and play the game on several platform- PC, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation, iOS, Android and Switch.
Fortnite Battle Royale is free to play, but people can purchase virtual currency from within the game which will allow access to exclusive items
You can also pay for a Premium pass which means you get exclusive access to items within the game.
