Cyberpunk 2077 game developers sent death threats after delay

Gamers have been waiting for a much delayed title, and they haven’t reacted well to news they’ll have to wait a little longer.

Gamers have been waiting a long time for a highly anticipated game, and they haven’t reacted well to the news that they’ll have to wait a little while longer.

Last week, Cyberpunk 2077 developers CD Projekt Red (CDPR) announced the game would be delayed yet again.

It’s now due to come out on December 10 for PS4, Xbox One and PC, with next-gen consoles to follow early next year.

The developers said they needed to delay the release due to the coronavirus pandemic forcing people to work at home while they try and push out nine different versions of the game for current-gen and next-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC and Google’s Stadia game streaming platform.

Some people who have been waiting for the game for a long time didn’t take news well, with one CDPR developer calling them out for their “unacceptable behaviour”.

“I understand you’re feeling angry, disappointed and want to voice your opinion about it,” senior game designer Andrzej Zawadzki said on Twitter.

“However, sending death threats to the developers is absolutely unacceptable and just wrong. We are people, just like you,” he wrote.

The revelation that members of the team were being threatened because the game would take a whole three extra weeks brought an outpouring of support.

“100 per cent uncalled for,” one respondent wrote. “It’s just three weeks.”

“I would much rather (the developers) put out a game they want to play and they are proud of than rush out a botched mess,” said another.

It appears the developers themselves were surprised by the delay.

Bloomberg News video game reporter Jason Schreier reported that “all of them found out at the same time we did – CDPR sent an internal email simultaneously with the public tweet”.

Cyberpunk 2077, when it does eventually release, willcombine hacking, stealth and gunplay elements along with Deus Ex style character customisation and augmentation.

It will reportedly have both lethal and nonlethal approaches to finish the game and the outcome can be different based on the choices you make during your campaign.
