FANS of sci-fi dystopian game Cyberpunk 2077 were getting excited this morning after getting a look at one of this generation’s most anticipated games.

CD Projekt Red’s ambitious sci-fi dystopian role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 is generating more excitement among gamers this morning after the developer released a 48 minute recorded gameplay video.

The video shows the same gameplay as the media-only behind closed doors demo I attended at E3 earlier this year and was absolutely blown away by it.

Already viewed nearly a million times after being released a few hours ago, and making a special guest appearance in pretty much every gamer’s social media feeds thanks to copious sharing and retweeting, the video has been met with widespread acclaim and excitement from fans who have been eagerly awaiting more information on the title.

Some of the comments on the video’s YouTube page illustrate the excitement many feel about the gaming now they’ve seen what it can offer, with “I want this game more than food and shelter”and “We fully expect, and endorse, a great many of our staff’s holidays being booked in conjunction with the release date” and among the sentiments expressed.

There’s still no official release date on the game, but game director Adam Badowski confirmed the video was recorded “from a game deep in development” and it is understood the game is in an alpha state, playable from start to finish.

“Since many of the assets and mechanics in the current version of Cyberpunk 2077 are most likely to be modified, we initially decided to show this gameplay only to media,” Mr Badowski said.

“Elements like gunplay (both in terms of visuals and how RPG stats influence it), netrunning, car physics, or the game’s UI (user interface) — everything’s pretty much still in the playtest phase and we felt uneasy about publicly committing to any particular design. Animation glitches, work-in-progress character facial expressions, early versions of locations — all this made us hesitant to release what you’re about to see.

“However, we are also well aware that many of you want to see what the media saw; although this is probably not the same game you’ll see on your screen when we launch, we still decided to share this 48-minute video with you. This is how Cyberpunk 2077 looks today. Let us know what you think!”
