Cyberpunk 2077, COD, Assassin’s Creed: Best PlayStation, Xbox games still to come in 2020

It’s one of the most hotly anticipated games in recent years, and as a reward for making it through 2020 we’ll finally get to play it.

Cyberpunk 2077 – E3 2018 trailer

We’re 10 months into 2020 but it’s not just the end of this awful year that we have to look forward to.

The last few months of the year are also when we’re usually treated to the release of the best video games in the lead up to Christmas and end of year holidays.

This year promises to be a bigger than usual with the arrival of next-generation gaming consoles from Sony and Microsft as well.
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X consoles are due to go on sale in November (though if you haven’t already secured one via pre-order you’ll need a sizeable stroke of luck to get your hands on one before the end of the year).

Of course, a console’s not much good without something to play on it.

Here are some of the most hotly anticipated titles coming to current and next-gen consoles before the end of the year.

CYBERPUNK 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is finally due for release.
Cyberpunk 2077 is finally due for release.

This title is one of the most long-awaited on this list, and it’s also the only one that isn’t part of an existing video game franchise (though it’s spiritually based on a tabletop game of the same name).

Keanu Reeves looks set to take a star role in the first-person open-world role-playing game set in the fictional Night City, a dystopia future world ruled by corporations where the only criminals are the ones who get caught.

It will reportedly have both lethal and nonlethal approaches to finish the game and the outcome can be different based on the choices you make during your campaign.

Cyberpunk 2077 combines hacking, stealth and gunplay elements along with Deus Ex style character customisation and augmentation.

The game has been delayed multiple times already and the developers at CDProjektRed (who you might know from The Witcher franchise) are reportedly working six-day weeks to finish it.

Cyberpunk 2077 is due for release on November 19 for current-gen consoles and PC.

It will be playable on next-gen consoles via backwards compatibility before a remastered version lands on the next-gen consoles in 2021.

ASSASSIN’S CREED: VALHALLA

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, looks set to cover the Viking Age.

The twelfth major entrant in Ubisoft’s long-running Assassin’s Creed franchise promises to take gamers on a new adventure through Norse history.

You play as a Viking in the upcoming Valhalla,

Over the years, fans of the game have played as assassins in the Italian Renaissance, American Revolution, the Golden Age of Piracy, and the French Revolution to name a few.

The next title is likely to build on the convoluted lore of its predecessors.

The game is scheduled for release on November 10, coinciding with the launch of the Xbox Series S and X.

It will also be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and will be available on PS5 when it launches too.

WATCH DOGS: LEGION

Ubisoft reveal Watch Dogs: Legion trailer

Ubisoft has made the bold decision to not centre the latest addition to the Watch Dogs franchise around a single main character, instead giving you the task of building up a network of operatives and effectively allowing you to “play as anyone” you come across in the dystopia near-future London.

The game expands the lore around the DedSec hacking group featured in previous titles while also introducing new recruitment gameplay.

Watch Dogs: Legion will be available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One from October 29 and will be on PS5, and Xbox Series S/X consoles when they become available.

CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS COLD WAR

Call of Duty Teaser Trailer Featuring Tiananmen Square

The latest instalment in the famous franchise transplants gamers back to the 1980s amid the final days of the Cold War.

Raven Software creative director Dan Vondrak said during a recent PS5 showcase that the next Call of Duty will feature “the next generation of multiplayer online combat and an all new awesome zombies experience” in addition to its campaign.

Multiplayer will once again be the main focus for most gamers as the campaign has never been the main draw of the franchise.

The game’s release is scheduled for November 13 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

SPIDER-MAN: MILES MORALES

The follow up to 2018’s well-received Spider-Man reboot will be a PlayStation exclusive (both PS4 and PS5), and as you might expect it expands on the Miles Morales story that was the subject of the film from the same year.

Footage of the new game starts with Miles facing off with a group of attackers trying to disrupt his mother’s campaign to be elected to Harlem city council, and it looks set to bring back all the web-slinging beat-em-up fun of the 2018 title.

The game will be a PS5 launch title, becoming available for both PS4 and PS5 on November 12.
