Pokemon Go players can’t even stop playing at funerals

THIS is definitive proof that Pokemon Go players don’t care where they are, they can’t stop using the app.

Pokemon chaser gets stuck in graveyard

THE cultural phenomenon known as Pokemon Go clearly knows no bounds.

The popularity of the game has exploded in the past week and the fervour with which players have taken up the challenge has apparently left little room for considerations about etiquette.

It’s hard to imagine a more solemn affair than a funeral or wake service, but plenty of smartphone gamers are finding it tough to fight the impulse to hunt Pokemon at such sombre events.

Such is the extent of the obsession that a Tumblr page has been set up dedicated to documenting the rather incongruous use of the app during inappropriate occasions.

The page is called “Pokemon at Funerals” and features the tagline: “Catch ‘em before they’re gone.”

It collects social media posts in which players have either admitted to playing at a funeral or, in some cases, expressing admonishment for such behaviour.

The augmented reality game requires players to visit “Pokestops” and “PokeGyms” dotted around public spaces to collect valuable items and battle other opponents.

The game launched in Australia, New Zealand and the US and has since expanded to the UK and Germany as Nintendo continues to roll the smartphone-based game out internationally.

Despite its enormous success so far, there has been a few teething issues with sacred sites such as Holocaust museums and war memorials taking issue with players inundating the sites.

But playing Pokemon Go at your relative’s funeral, as one Twitter user admitted to, shows some next level commitment.
