HE’S only five-years-old but this mini music prodigy is playing gigs, jamming with rock stars and setting his sights on fame and it’s all thanks a video game.

A five-year-old boy has become a real guitar hero by mastering the instrument after playing a video game.

The music prodigy, Alexander Santarpia, from the UK only picked up a guitar less than a year ago and is now acing his way through exams and even playing gigs at his parents’ pub — and it’s all thanks to the Rocksmith video game he began playing on his PlayStation.

The game is like the popular Guitar Hero style titles where coloured notes fly towards you and you need to strum in time, but here you plug in a real guitar. It’s designed to let you learn songs using proper chords and hand positions rather than just frantically tapping away on a plastic peripheral.

“He picked it up properly after playing on the PlayStation and hasn’t looked back since.

“He plays Rocksmith, it takes a lot of hand eye co-ordination, especially for someone of his age, but he manages it and doesn’t even look at his fingers anymore,” his dad, Nick, said.

Alexander, who has titled himself “The Great”, became one of Britain’s youngest musicians to earn distinctions in an exam in one go, where it would normally take average strummers three years to pass them.

If that isn’t rock ‘n’ roll enough for you he has even already performed on stage with musician Jake Bugg who came into the pub where Alexander was playing and was so impressed they jammed together.

The rising star is currently writing his own songs and wants to follow in the footsteps of his favourite bands Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath to grow up to be a rock star. If only the same was the case for playing FIFA.
