YOU'RE probably guilty of spending countless amounts of hours playing the stupidly addictive mobile game, Candy Crush.

Well, the makers of Candy Crush, King, have just trademarked the use of the word Candy in any video game, clothing, gambling suite or pretty much anything else fun and awesome.

Unlike a lot of stupid trademarks, King is actually enforcing it with Apple's help. According to Forbes, many app developers have received requests to remove their games because they are too close to that of the Candy Crush institution.

"We have trademarked the word 'candy' in the EU, as our IP is constantly being infringed and we have to enforce our rights and to protect our players from confusion," a spokesperson from King told news.com.au.

"We don't enforce against all uses of candy - some are legitimate and of course, we would not ask App developers who use the term legitimately to stop doing so.

"The particular App in this instance was called Candy Casino Slots - Jewels Craze Connect: Big Blast Mania Land, but its icon in the App store just says 'Candy Slots', focussing heavily on our trademark.

"As well as infringing our and other developer's IP, use of keywords like this as an App name is also a clear breach of Apple's terms of use. We believe this App name was a calculated attempt to use other companies' IP to enhance its own games, through means such as search rankings."

Candy Crush is already one of the most popular games on the planet, with its developer claiming that the game has been played more than 150 billion times and that 500 million users have downloaded the game globally.

So it's quite odd that something of such magnitude would be trying to take down irrelevant apps like "Candy Casino slots" just for the use of the word candy. Guess when you're as big as Goliath, you can do anything.
