All Blacks captain Richie McCaw features in best commercial you’ll see all year

THE latest Beats headphones commercial for the Rugby World Cup pulls on all your heart strings and could be the best we’ve seen in a long time.

Richie McCaw stars in epic Beats by Dre ad

CONTINUING its trend of epic commercials, headphones brand Beats by Dre has shown off its ad for the 2015 Rugby World Cup featuring All Blacks captain Richie McCaw.

It shows the journey McCaw took before his final World Cup, a picturesque New Zealand and practising a haka written just for the commercial.

The video highlights his homeland and the importance of drawing strength from there before big moments. You see an almost cult-like following of him, with fans wearing masks at a local pub and McCaw running through the New Zealand landscape back into his hometown with a “Welcome to McCaw country” sign as he enters.

In less than four days online, the video has already received more than 3 million views.

Beats released a similar ad pulling on heart strings last year for the FIFA World Cup, centring on Brazilian hero Neymar Jr. The video featured cameos from big athletes outside of football, such as Serena Williams and Nicki Minaj, but the biggest story was perhaps LeBron James’s inclusion.

Media website Ad Age reports that his inclusion is a result of James asking Beats if he could be in the commercial. But it was actually the other way around. The world’s best basketball player actually wanted to make sure he wouldn’t miss out on a Beats cameo.
