World of Warcraft: Dragonflight release date ‘on or before December 31, 2022’

World of Warcraft will get bigger again with the Dragonflight expansion this year. Activision Blizzard annual meeting of shareholders has a small hitch.

The 15 Best PC Games of All Time

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, the latest (and ninth) expansion for the world’s most popular MMO, will release this year. The news comes as pre-orders have gone live for Dragonflight and its various special and collector’s editions.

It’s somewhat surprising for fans of the MMO, as it is quite soon for the expansion to be available, though a specific date wasn’t given. Expansions have launched in November and August, with two-year gaps, like clockwork since 2008. Officially, this one will launch “on or before December 31, 2022.”

This would fit that pattern, however with some major changes coming in this expansion and the general lack of faith in developers Blizzard from the community, there was some expectation that more time would be taken over it.

Pre-orders come in three editions – base, heroic, and epic. The base gets access to everything you might expect, while Heroic adds a character boost, mount, and pet. The Epic edition has some unique cosmetics on top of those. Pictures and details can be seen over on Twitter.

In related news, Activision Blizzard had their annual shareholder meeting yesterday. It went roughly as expected with one key deviation – stockholders voted in favour of an annual report into the company’s actions on workplace safety and harassment.

On the docket were five items. Three of these were standard items surrounding board members, executive compensation, and the appointment of accounting firm. Two further were non-binding resolutions brought by stockholders that the ATVI board suggested voting against.

The first, suggesting an employee of the company should be added to a new board position, was roundly defeated by a margin of 95%. The other, which passed with a vote share of 67%, was the report. Activision said in response that it will “carefully consider the proposal to enhance our future disclosures.” They aren’t forced by law or contract to do any more.
