Video game Chop Goblins’ developer says his cat launched the game early
Chop Goblins creator says his cat called Zamboni released the game ahead of time on Steam.
The developer of 2018 FPS game Dusk, David Szymanski, has released a new title called Chop Goblins, a small retro shooter.
The indie creator said the new game was originally planned to launch in early 2023, as a New Years’ surprise to fans. Apparently, his plans were frustrated on Monday by no other but his own cat Zamboni.
David Szymanski took to Twitter to explain that his cat went behind his back to release the game on popular distribution platform Steam from his office computer.
WTF I just came upstairs to my office and discovered the Zamboni released Chop Goblins early! They must remind him of himself. pic.twitter.com/e5IPUFdTaw

We don’t know for sure if the cat really pressed the launch button on Chop Goblins in advance, or the post is a clever marketing trick, but the cute feline did help the game win more fans. And it won’t be the first time an adorable cat draws players to an indie game this year, after Stray broke records in July.
Szymanski’s previous indie game, Dusk, is among the best FPS titles from the last few years. It takes place in the eponymous fictional rural town. The object of the game is to escape the level, surviving against hostile enemies including mystical cultists, demonic livestock, sentient scarecrows, and possessed soldiers.
In the new shooter, you “pursue the malevolent Chop Goblins through time, and foil them with devastating weapons”, according to the game’s description on Steam. The new title promises five different levels set in different time periods, five weapons to choose from and it can be completed in just 30 minutes.
Chop Goblins is a microshooter game selling for $6.75 on Steam.
