The showrunners in charge of the recently aired The Last of Us TV show adaptation have thanked fans for the positive reaction to the show’s first episode.

Neil Druckmann, who helped create The Last of Us game and was heavily involved in the TV show adaptation, took to Twitter to thank Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, who portray main characters Joel and Ellie, respectively, for their fantastic performances in the show.

He also thanked fans for “all the kind words”, saying that the production team has been reading every response from fans. He says that “the journey is just starting,” and that he “couldn’t be prouder” of how the production has turned out.

The show’s primary showrunner, Craig Mazin, also took to Reddit to thank fans for their reactions to the show.

“THANK YOU for all the wonderful reactions and passion you’ve shown for the show,” Mazin said, “Honestly, we’re all blown away over here, and I’m particularly pleased because I think the series just gets better and better as it goes”.

Mazin says that he and Ramsey both agreed not to delve too deep into social media, because it tends to be filled with negativity, but because of the massively positive response to the show, he decided to take a look. He went on to thank fans again, saying that he hopes fans will stick with the show for the duration of the series as it airs.

“On behalf of myself, Neil, Pedro, Bella and everyone else who worked so hard for so long on this show, I say thank you thank you thank you again for watching, and I hope you stick with us for the full run of the series”.

The TV show adaptation has proven to be one of the most well-received video game adaptations of all time, according to both critics and fans alike. The first season of the show has 99% positive reviews on score aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, and holds an audience score of 96% positive responses.

The Last of Us is available on HBO and HBO Max in the US, while in Australia it’s available on streaming service Binge, as well as on Foxtel including Foxtel Now. The first season will consist of nine episodes, and is set to air weekly.

It comes during a spate of high profile video game adaptations, with many still on the way. Amazon announced last year that it was making a live-action God of War show with help from God of War developer Sony Santa Monica.

Instant cult classic Death Stranding is also getting a movie adaptation, with game director Hideo Kojima said to be heavily involved in the process.
