Streamer xQc sets new Minecraft record
The top 10 streamer has beaten out rival streamer Forsen after almost two years of attempts to finish Minecraft the fastest.
Top 10 streamer Félix “xQc” Lengyel has set a new Minecraft speedrunning record, taking the record from fellow streamer Sebastian “Forsen” Fors after a years-long rivalry.
Minecraft speedruns are a popular feature on streaming platform Twitch, where players of the game compete to finish Minecraft the fastest from a fresh save file. Minecraft speedruns will typically have players starting on a fresh, random ‘seed’, which is what decides how the world is randomised.
Minecraft speedrunners have to start with nothing in the game, gear up with equipment and weapons, find a portal to the game’s final area, and defeat the game’s boss, the End Dragon. The random nature of the challenge means that it can be quite difficult to do this quickly, as no two runs are the same and runners can’t rely on existing knowledge from previous runs.
xQc and Forsen have both been vying for the fastest time against each other for over two years, though the competition has been largely one-sided since April 2021. That was when Forsen took the record from xQc with a time of 20 minutes and 38 seconds, seven seconds faster than xQc’s record.
In recent months, however, xQc has been grinding out attempts, and has finally been successful in beating the record. With a time of 20 minutes and 5 seconds, xQc’s run beat Forsen’s long standing record by an impressive 32 seconds.
xQc’s reaction to the record-breaking time was sheer surprise, with the streamer saying that he was shaking now that he’d managed to score a new record.
xQc has been involved in a lot of drama recently, after the top 10 Twitch streamer said he doesn’t pay his moderators. The streamer makes upwards of a million dollars a year from subscriptions, donations, and sponsorship deals, but the team that’s in charge of making sure his chat is clean reportedly doesn’t see a penny of it.
He also lost $735,000 on World Cup final bets, after betting a huge amount of money on France to win the FIFA World Cup finals. The match was ultimately won by Argentina, who secured the game with a penalty shootout after an intense match.
