Strange trailer reveals huge game delay

A bizarre trailer for the upcoming Black Myth: Wukong has revealed that the game will no longer be coming out in 2023 like anticipated.

Black Myth: Wukong developer Game Science has released a bizarre trailer revealing the release window of the game, and it’s much later than initially expected.

The trailer is a strange stop-motion film about a rabbit puppet who’s excited to play Black Myth: Wukong. The rabbit is elated when the game arrives in the mail, only to sit through a lengthy install process and have his computer fail.

After building a brand new gaming PC, complete with a very silly parody of an Nvidia graphics card, the rabbit finally boots up the game, only to find that the game won’t be playable until 2042. Ouch.

Thankfully, players won’t have to wait quite that long to get their hands on the game, although the wait will be longer than many had hoped. While Game Science initially planned to have the game come out sometime in 2023, the release has been moved into 2024, with no specific date given.

Black Myth: Wukong was first shown off back in 2020, and is an action RPG in the vein of games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring. Its theming, location, and story all seem to be based on Journey to the West, a legendary Chinese novel from the 16th century that’s been adapted hundreds of times in various media.

Despite Game Science being a relatively new and largely unknown studio, gamers have shown massive support for the game, due to its spectacular graphics and snappy-looking combat. The game is scheduled for release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC.

Releasing on PS4 and Xbox One in particular is a bit of an odd move, given those systems will be over ten years old by the time the game comes out. Still, it opens the game up to a much wider audience than just focusing on the current generation of consoles would.

It’s not the only game facing delays though. Skull and Bones, a big Ubisoft game, has been delayed six times now, after initially being announced all the way back in 2017. The game has been moved into each subsequent year since, and was intended to launch on March 9, 2023 before being delayed once more.

An Aussie sports game got a surprise release on Christmas Eve last year, after a similar set of delays. Sports Story, made by Brisbane-based development team Sidebar Games, was delayed multiple times over two years.
