Retro favourite Sonic rumoured to debut in popular free-to-play game Fall Guys
Dataminers may have uncovered an upcoming Fall Guys collaboration with everyone’s favourite hedgehog.
Fall Guys, the free-to-play competitive runner from developer Mediatonic, is rumoured to have an upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration event.
This includes a new map based on Green Hill Zone, which was datamined by a fan, as well as new costumes for other Sonic characters.
Mediatonic’s now free-to-play giant, Fall Guys, has a few collaborations hidden in its game files. Dataminer FGPancake revealed the Green Hill Zone map.
Tentatively named “Bean Hill Zone” (because the players control beans, get it?), the map is a battle arena filled with plenty of Sonic-themed hazards, such as spring traps, speed boosts, and platforms to jump around.
Unlike typical Fall Guys levels, this level is closed off, so there is very little fear of falling to your death. In all likelihood, this level will probably be used for a “hunt” style game, such as Tail Tag, where the goal is to collect a tail and keep it until the timer counts down.
That’s not the only thing tucked away in the game files. FGPancake also revealed on Twitter that plenty of costumes are making their way into the game as well. Costumes shown include Tails and Super Sonic from Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as Godzilla, Fatal Fury, WWE, and Death’s Door costumes.
As with any leak, even if game files are present, it doesn’t mean that what you see is the final product. Collaborations can get cancelled, and game files can be altered before being pushed out to live servers, so take everything here with a grain of salt.
Fall Guys, which recently went free-to-play, has enjoyed immense success from its new partnership with Epic Games. During the first 48 hours of the free-to-play launch period, Fall Guys amassed 20 million players across all console platforms. This is despite a series of launch week bugs, such as a store bug that auto-purchased items when you examined them, driving players mad and eliciting a free gift from Mediatonic as an apology.
