New Zelda game might be more expensive
A Nintendo Store listing has suggested that the upcoming sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild might be more expensive than most Switch games.
An official store listing has suggested that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom might be more expensive than most Switch games.
The listing was noticed by Twitter user Wario64, who saw that Nintendo had added a price to its US store listing, which was previously blank. The price listed was $69.99 USD, a full $10 USD more than the usual retail price of most Switch games.

The vast majority of Nintendo-published Switch games retail for $59.99 USD in the US, with some smaller games retailing for a little bit less. If the price for Tears of the Kingdom is true, it would be the first time a first-party title has been more than $60 USD since the GameCube.
Tears of the Kingdom is the highly anticipated follow up to 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The game was first announced at E3 in 2021, and has since been given a release date of May 21, 2023.
Breath of the Wild received universal praise upon its release, winning multiple game of the year awards in 2017 and cementing its place as one of the best games of all time. Players and critics praised it for its reinvention of open-world mechanics, reserved storytelling, and open-ended combat options.
In Australia, Breath of the Wild even retailed at a higher price than many other Switch games that followed it, selling for $89.95. Most first-party Switch games cost $79.95, which is much cheaper than even last-generation PS4 and Xbox One games, which typically cost $100.
PS5 games have trended upwards in recent years, however, going up to $70 in the US and $125 in Australia. Xbox Series games are also getting more expensive going forward, though the increased price has not yet been revealed by Microsoft.
Nintendo has yet to publicly comment on the price listing for Tears of the Kingdom, but other upcoming games from the publisher are still set to retail for $60 in the US and $80 in Australia.
It comes after it was revealed that the Nintendo Switch has become the third-best selling console in history, overtaking the PlayStation 4 and the Game Boy.
