New Sonic the Hedgehog show arrives in December

Sonic Prime is coming to Netflix this December, with a colourful returning cast of characters from the franchise.

The 15 best FPS games of all time

Sonic fans are living large this winter, as alongside a new Sonic game launch in Sonic Frontiers, the blue blur is getting a new TV show named Sonic Prime, and it launches December 15th.

Sonic has had a rollercoaster lifespan — from the classic platforming games on the Sega Genesis to the Steve Urkel-voiced cartoon, to a multi-million dollar box office hit with two modern movies. A number of fantastic and, well, not-so-fantastic Sonic games have launched since then.

Sonic Prime, the newest cartoon that features the fastest thing alive, aims to break the cycle of sometimes good, sometimes bad Sonic media properties — and gave us a teaser look at it too. It’s been confirmed that alongside Sonic will be several favourite characters from the franchise, including Knuckles, Tails, Amy, Rouge the Bat, Shadow, Big the Cat, and, of course, Eggman.

Not much is known about the series at this time, however, the teaser posters that gaming publication IGN posted include a few hints, such as a shard on Sonic’s poster revealing what appears to be a cyborg Amy.

With the impending release of Frontiers, there’s plenty of Sonic content for fans to stay happy with over the holiday season. It must be a relief, after the past few decades that the franchise has gone through. For example, Sonic ‘06 is a game that is regularly discussed as one of the “worst video games ever made” due to a massive amount of game-breaking bugs, and Sonic Forces launched to an average response from fans and critics alike.

Sonic Prime launches on Netflix on December 15th, and Sonic Frontiers launches on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC on November 8.

In other gaming news, fans are reporting Blizzard Entertainment to regulatory agencies over the belief that their pricing schemes are “illegal” in certain countries; and a phone game is intentionally locking players out of the game permanently once they complete the story.
