Frictional Games, the company behind the massively popular horror series Amnesia, as well as games like Soma, has revealed a new entry in the Amnesia series, introducing combat for the first time.

Amnesia: The Bunker is a new game in the Amnesia series that’s set in the first World War. Frictional Games says that the game is nonlinear and each puzzle has multiple solutions, with “hardly any scripted events” (thanks Eurogamer!).

“For the first time, players are equipped with high levels of freedom to impact gameplay, choosing their playstyle as they explore at will,” Frictional said, “with hardly any scripted events, and constant tension brought about by an ever-present threat, it is up to each player to finesse their approach to survival”.

Unlike past games in the Amnesia series, players will be able to fight back against monsters in the survival horror game. While the game’s Steam page says that players will start with only one bullet in their gun, they’ll be able to scavenge supplies and craft weapons and tools to make their way through the world.

Previous games from Frictional have followed a strict no combat policy, with the prior Amnesia games all having very few, if any, ways to damage monsters. Instead, players had to avoid monsters and find ways to interact with the environment to stop monsters from attacking or killing them.

The first game in the Amnesia series, Amnesia: Dark Descent, rose to prominence after its release in 2010 thanks primarily to streamers and YouTubers. Its spooky atmosphere, tense gameplay, and occasional jumpscares made it an instant hit for fans to watch their favourite content creators react to.

In other gaming news, Twitch recently introduced new safety tools for streamers. A new feature called “Shield Mode” allows streamers to lock down their channel with the touch of a button, which can prevent new chatters from talking on the channel, or instantly ban anyone who uses particular words or phrases.

Nintendo has also promised to fix its new Pokemon games, after more than a week of fans complaining about bugs, glitches, and performance issues. In a statement, the company said that it was taking feedback from players seriously, and that improvements to the games were in the works.
