Krispy Kreme selling Xbox doughnuts in South Australia

The popular US doughnut brand has unveiled doughnuts inspired by the Xbox logo for sale in South Australia while giving away consoles

The 15 best FPS games of all time

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts has revealed a new Xbox-inspired doughnut available exclusively in South Australia, alongside a big competition that could see doughnut fans winning Xbox consoles.

The new doughnuts are filled with chocolate brownie filling, and sport the familiar Xbox logo stencilled in icing sugar atop a green icing. The doughnuts come in single, double, and dozen packs, and can also be purchased as part of a mixed pack with other doughnuts.

The promotion comes alongside a competition that will see 10 Xbox Series S consoles given away to those who buy the Xbox doughnuts. Buyers will earn an entry for each individual Xbox doughnut purchased – up to twelve entries in a dozen-pack – and there’s no limit as to how many entries a person can accrue over the promotional period, which lasts until December 6.

According to the competition’s terms and conditions page, entrants will need to use an app called OTR to present a barcode to be scanned at the time of purchase. There’s currently no word on if the promotion will come to other states, or if it will remain exclusive to South Australia, and it’s also not known if the doughnuts will be available after the promotional period comes to a close.

A surprisingly similar promotion was offered by Australian Krispy Kreme competitor Donut King, which offered a range of doughnuts shaped like the iconic PlayStation controller buttons earlier this year (thanks Press Start!). That promotion also came alongside a competition giving away PlayStation 5 consoles, though the promotion was available in more than one state.

In other Xbox news, Microsoft’s $100b deal to acquire Activision Blizzard is facing an “in-depth” investigation from regulators across the globe, as the company attempts to bolster its exclusive Xbox offerings through acquisitions and mergers. If successful, the deal will include the popular Call of Duty series, alongside a host of popular video game IPs, such as Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and Candy Crush Saga.

While Sony and other competitors in the space have expressed concerns that Microsoft could make Call of Duty exclusive to its Xbox consoles, Microsoft said it wants Call of Duty on the Nintendo Switch, as well as PlayStation and any other platform that’s available. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer also said that he’s excited about the possibility of expanding Xbox offerings on mobile, saying that there’s “3 billion people playing video games”, but only 200 million of them are playing on consoles.
