Gamers confused about Dead Space preorders
An unusual preorder bonus for the upcoming remake of Dead Space has left fans scratching their heads and wondering what’s next for the series.
A remake of the critically acclaimed Dead Space is due to launch at the end of January, but an unusual preorder bonus has left fans wondering what’s next for the series.
As spotted by gaming news outlet Rock Paper Shotgun, preorders for EA Motive’s remake of Dead Space on Steam will come with an extra bonus: Dead Space 2. That’s the original version of Dead Space 2, not an unannounced remake of the game.
The bonus offer doesn’t appear to be available on other digital storefronts, as the Epic Games Store, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store all don’t mention the 2011 sequel.
EA Motive’s Dead Space remake is said to be a faithful reimagining of the 2008 classic survival horror game, with Motive saying that the game’s story, structure, and gameplay will remain largely the same as the original. That said, creative director Roman Campos-Oriola has said that there’ll be plenty of improvements and accessibility options, and that previously cut content from the original game may make a reappearance in the new version.
Dead Space 2 being offered as a preorder bonus does make sense, since the remake is going to follow most of the same story beats as the original and the sequel follows on from that. Still, it has some fans wondering what will happen next with the series.
Some have speculated that including the original game’s sequel means it’s less likely Dead Space 2 will get remade. Others think it’s the opposite, and that including the sequel as a preorder bonus means that EA is looking to gauge interest in the game ahead of a potential remake.
Remakes of Dead Space 2 or 3 have yet to be announced by EA, but it’s expected that if the Dead Space remake performs well, the other two games in the series will follow.
GLHF went hands-on with the Dead Space remake last year, and was impressed with the results. The game’s environments have been lovingly recreated, exactly as players remember it, and it seemed like Dead Space was shaping up to be up there with Resident Evil 2 in terms of high quality remakes.
A fan remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica was “cancelled by Capcom” late last year, after the fan project’s developers claimed to work on the game for over two years.
