Final Fantasy XIV 6.2: 5 biggest upcoming changes

Final Fantasy 14’s highly anticipated 6.2 update has had most of its content revealed. We’ll tell you all the biggest changes coming to the game.

Everything You Need To Know About Final Fantasy XVI

Final Fantasy XIV fans have been anticipating update 6.2 for a long time now. While intervening patches have added a bunch of new quests, raids, and equipment, 6.2 has long been promised to be full of content fans have been after for a while. Earlier today a stream was held where the producers talked through everything that’s coming, and it’s certainly lived up to expectations. The gargantuan amount of new content on offer will keep you playing FFXIV for ages to come.

With so much new information coming your way, it can be difficult to pick through and find everything you care about, so we’re here to give you an overview of everything that’s been announced. We’ve picked out the biggest announcements to highlight so you know everything that’ll be coming your way in Final Fantasy 14 6.2 and, perhaps more importantly, when it’ll be coming.

Patch 6.18 is coming July 5

Before we dig into the juicy stuff, it was announced that the next patch, 6.18 will be coming next week with a few vital updates. Firstly, it marks the start of season two of Crystalline Conflict, the game’s competitive PvP mode, which means that season one’s results will be tallied and rewards will be handed out on a regional basis.

Other than that, the European data centre is being expanded with additional new worlds, and the server equipment has been replaced to make everything run a bit smoother from now on. Be warned that this update, coming July 5 has a whopping 24 hours of server maintenance downtime attached.

6.2 releases late August 2022

First and foremost, you need to know when this content is coming. An exact date is yet to be announced, but late August has now been promised. This will come as a relief to many in the fanbase who had a pessimistic view of when the update would be out, some even believing they would be kept waiting into 2023.

New main scenario quests

As expected, the main scenario for Final Fantasy 14 will be expanded yet again with this update, as more main quests are on their way to the Endwalker endgame. Exactly what form these will take isn’t clear yet, but some adjustments are being made to other quests as well.

The most notable change is that Duty Support has been added to the following quests:

  • Snowcloak

  • The Keeper of the Lake

  • Sohm AI

  • The Aery

  • The Vault

Duty Support allows players to take a party of NPCs into quests, slowly levelling them up and gaining trust as they go. It expands the play potential for all of these great quests

New Dungeon and Variant Dungeons

The new Dungeon has been unveiled, and it’s called The Fell Court of Troia. It’s being deliberately shrouded in mystery, but a few screenshots showed it to be a grand palace floating in the void, with dark and dank environments inside.

Additionally, a new type of Dungeon has been announced for patch 6.25 called Variant Dungeons. These dungeons have variable difficulty based on party size and emphasise player choice and freedom on their adventures. Each Dungeon’s story has branching paths that players affect with their actions, and there are no role restrictions when heading inside.

New Raids – Pandaemonium: Abyssos

The next raids will be called Pandaemonium: Abyssos. These are promised to be some of the most challenging yet, with an additional savage raid being released 1 week after the rest of 6.2. This staggered release is an experiment to see if players end up preferring it to both the regular and savage raids being released simultaneously.

Island Sanctuary

By far the biggest and most anticipated feature for FF14 6.2 is the new Island Sanctuary feature. To put it simply, if you’ve ever wished Final Fantasy XIV was more like Stardew Valley, then this is the feature for you. You’ll be gathering resources to expand an ever-growing town with animals to care for, facilities to build, and people to build relationships with.

Growing your island is a solo experience, but players can visit and hang out on each other’s islands for some socialising.

These huge features only scratch the surface of what’s coming in 6.2 and 6.25, so if you want to know more about the upcoming Weapon Enhancements, Trials, and more, you can watch the VOD on the official Final Fantasy XIV YouTube channel.
