A user posted a video to the Nier: Automata Reddit showcasing a room that no one else in the world has been able to access.

Game modders and data miners have been unable to track down this room, which contains an unfinished cutscene and potential lore implications.

The video, which is only a few minutes long, showcases a room that is built into the wall of a structure on the perimeter of a battle arena.

This area, known as the Copied City, is most widely known for its stark white colour palette, outlining a world created by machines.

There is no indication that this door exists, and inside the room is a long tunnel that the user can fall down into. At the bottom is a previously undiscovered church, with a small cutscene and potential lore implications for the world of Nier.

Nier: Automata, which was first released in 2017, is mostly a ‘solved’ game. There were a handful of secrets built into the game, but the developers at Platinum Games claimed that they had all been found.

The last secret discovered was found by Lance “Manfightdragon” McDonald, a modder and reverse engineer who regularly dives into the code of popular titles like P.T., Elden Ring, and Nier: Automata.

The “last secret” discovered was a hidden trigger to immediately skip the entire game five times, complete Ending E, and unlock a bevvy of features like Debug Mode, Extras, and more.

This was confirmed in a tweet from the Japanese Nier account, warning players to be cautious of spoilers.

So with the game having been “solved”, how is it possible that this secret remained undiscovered? One theory holds that the developers of Nier are using this to stealth market the upcoming third installation of the Nier franchise.

Many modders of the game claim that it is not possible to create entire rooms and scenarios in the game engine as shown in the video — and there are many hints in the video to suggest that this isn’t a fan hoax.

A Nier developer, Yosuke Saito, noticed the attention the Reddit thread was getting, and simply had two words to say: “Eternal mystery…” Hopefully, soon we should have our answers as many outlets have reached out to Platinum Games for additional info.
