Diablo 4 gets weird fashion crossover

The upcoming game from Blizzard Entertainment has made a huge splash on the runway with an unlikely collaboration with fashion house Han Kjøbenhavn.

The upcoming Diablo 4 has made a curious appearance on the runway in Milan, thanks to a new collaboration between developer Blizzard Entertainment and fashion house Han Kjøbenhavn.

Milan Fashion Week last weekend was all about worlds colliding, and a special collection of fashion pieces from Danish fashion design firm Han Kjøbenhavn inspired by Diablo 4 took to the runway, to the surprise of many.

The collection was called “Cthonic Penumbra”, and featured heavy, dark hues with plenty of grey, black, and of course red. The collection was inspired by the themes of the Diablo world of Sanctuary, and in particular Diablo 4’s mother of demons, Lilith.

A core theme of the show was “Hell as a beautiful place”, and given how deeply that resonates with the Diablo franchise, which focuses heavily on the beasts of Hell, it’s not all that surprising to see fashion come from it.

According to Han Kjøbenhavn’s Jannik Wikkelsø Davidsen in an interview with GLHF, the decision to bring gaming into the world of fashion was an easy one.

“I think that gaming and the value within that and what gaming provides is much more than just being a game in the day and age we live in,” Davidsen said, “I think it’s a different time, and I only see gaming becoming more and more powerful”.

Davidsen also said that Diablo was the obvious choice for a partnership, because its themes of darkness and despair translated perfectly into the kind of work that the firm was already working with.

“I know there’s been a few comments about the previous Diablo that it was a bit too light, but also coming down to the Diablo that I was playing 10 years ago, darkness is a key element,” Davidsen said, “That’s definitely something we brought into not only clothing, but the choice of music that we’re music and the set design”.

The Diablo series is a long-running series of dungeon crawling action RPGs, which was launched with the first game on PC all the way back in 1997. The game spawned a number of sequels, and has amassed a gigantic fan base, with the most recent game in the series, Diablo 3, selling over 30 million copies.

The next game in the series, Diablo 4, is shaping up well for its June launch, as GLHF discovered when it went hands-on with the game late last year. A much darker atmosphere and a sense of dread and tension are core to the experience, and the gameplay is the best the series has ever seen.

Players who want to try out Diablo 4 for themselves can do so this month, when the game holds its open beta. Fans who preorder the game will get to try it out a week before anyone else, while anybody can participate in the second wave of betas the following weekend.
