Activision Blizzard has announced that Season 2 of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 has been delayed following an outpouring of community feedback from players.

The update was initially planned to release in early February, but now players will have to wait until February 15 to play Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 Season 2.

A post on the official Call of Duty Twitter account says that the game’s developers will be using the extra time to include additional changes to the game prompted by community and player feedback.

“Our studios have been making several changes based on what we have heard from our player community,” the tweet said, “Season 2 includes all new content, with the return of Resurgence and a brand new small map for Warzone 2.0. Ranked play is also back and coming to MWII, along with new multiplayer maps, new modes, weapons and much more”.

The return of Resurgence is particularly exciting for Call of Duty players, who’ve been wanting a mode like it since Warzone 2.0 launched back in November.

Resurgence was a very popular mode in the original Warzone, and featured a smaller map than the main mode, enabling quicker and much more action-oriented gameplay. Warzone 2.0 launched without the mode, but the game’s developers stressed that it wouldn’t be long before it would be added back in.

Ranked play is also making a comeback, with changes also planned for both the Gulag and the loot system, both of which have been criticised by players since the game launched. This may be the part of the update that caused Activision to delay, since players have been outspoken about these features for months.

The new season is also expected to bring additional weapons, and dataminers have predicted some interesting choices. They say that it seems likely that the fan-favourite crossbow will be making a comeback in Season 2, alongside a mysterious shotgun called Vepr-12 that seems to be in the works.

It comes as Call of Duty has become the centrepiece of an ongoing investigation by regulatory bodies into an attempted acquisition of publisher Activision Blizzard by Xbox maker Microsoft.

Despite PlayStation maker Sony saying that Microsoft is likely to make the series exclusive to its Xbox systems, Microsoft said that it wants to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo and every other system, even signing 10-year deals to ensure that happens.

Microsoft made even more Call of Duty concessions when it offered Sony the option to put the series on its PlayStation Plus subscription service in attempt to assuage fears it would have the advantage with the games on Xbox Game Pass.
