An AI reviews GTA 6, Starfield, God of War Ragnarok, Redfall, and more

We ran some of the most exciting upcoming video games through an AI to see if they’ll be any good. And then we reviewed the AI’s reviews. So meta.

The Best RPGs of 2022

We’ve been playing around with Open.AI’s Playground AI. It allows you to put in any prompt, and the AI generates text based on that prompt. Feed it someone’s Wikipedia page and you can conduct an interview with them. Tell it to review a video game – even if the game isn’t out – and it’ll do just that.

So that’s what we did. We looked at the most exciting upcoming games and got the AI to predict how good they will be. Let’s take a peek into the future.

Starfield review

“If you‘re looking for an immersive and captivating RPG experience, you’ll find it in Starfield. With a vast and beautifully realised galaxy to explore, and a deeply engaging story to get lost in, Starfield is a game that’s easy to recommend. The combat is enjoyable and exciting, and the character customisation options give you plenty of freedom to create the space adventurer you want to play. Although there are some technical issues that need to be ironed out, overall Starfield is a solid and enjoyable game that’s definitely worth your time.”

Well, the AI seems to have a grasp of what Starfield actually is. This one is quite convincing.

We rate this review 8/10.

Redfall review

Redfall. Picture: Bethesda Softworks

“Redfall is an open-world action-adventure game set in a post-apocalyptic world where a virus has decimated the human population. The player takes on the role of a survivor who must scavenge for resources and build up their base in order to survive. The game features a unique crafting system that allows players to create their own weapons and armour, and the game world is filled with environmental puzzles and objectives to discover.

“The game‘s visuals are stunning, and the open-world environment is huge and full of things to do. The crafting system is deep and allows for a lot of customisation, and the combat is fast-paced and satisfying. The game does have some technical issues, however, such as frequent frame rate drops and some glitches. Overall, Redfall is a great game with a lot to offer, but it is held back by some technical issues.”

This one? Not so much. Yes, Redfall is an open-world game, but it’s about vampires. I guess they are a kind of virus, but you’re not getting full points for that, robot man. I’m also not sure about the base building stuff. It doesn’t sound much like an Arkane Austin game to me.

This review gets a 2/10.

God of War Ragnarök review

“I thoroughly enjoyed God of War Ragnarok. The story was engaging and well written, the characters were likeable and interesting, and the gameplay was exciting and challenging. The game also looked absolutely gorgeous. Overall, I would highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a great action-adventure experience.”

It’s a bit vague, this one. Not a single mention of Kratos or Norse mythology. It’s a 1/10 from us.

The Callisto Protocol review

“The Callisto Protocol is an excellent science fiction novel that tells the story of a group of scientists who are sent to Jupiter‘s moon, Callisto, in order to investigate a strange signal that has been emanating from the planet. The novel is full of suspense and excitement, and the characters are well-developed and likeable. I would definitely recommend this book to any fan of science fiction.”

I’m out. 0/10

GTA 6 review

“GTA 6 is one of the best games I have ever played. The graphics, the gameplay, and the story are all top notch. I have not been this addicted to a game in a long time. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great game to play.”

These are starting to feel a bit like tarot card readings now, aren’t they? 1/10.

Final Fantasy 16 review

“I haven‘t played the game yet, but I’m really excited for it!”

Typical game journalist, not even playing the game. 5/10 for authenticity.

Alright, let’s switch it up. We can feel the AI getting bored at this point. Let’s have it write poems about these games instead.

Starfield poem

A field of stars
In the middle of nowhere

A place where wishes come true

And dreams come alive

A place where you can be anything
And do anything

The possibilities are endless

And the sky is the limit

A place where you can feel
The warmth of the sun

And the coolness of the moon

And the love of the universe

A place where you can be
Who you want to be

And do what you want to do

And be happy and free

This is the place
Where I want to be

And this is the place

That I call home

That’s… actually not bad. 9/10

Redfall poem

Redfall. Picture: Bethesda Softworks

Redfall is a game about

survival in a post-apocalyptic

world. You must scavenge

for food and water, build

shelters, and fight off

dangerous creatures.

It won‘t be easy, but

if you‘re brave and

determined, you just

might make it through

this hostile land.

And we’re back to making stuff up that’s not true about Redfall again. Brilliant. 0/10

God of War Ragnarök

The God of War is coming
He brings with him death and destruction

All will tremble before him

None will be spared

He is the end of all things

The God of War is coming
He will not stop until all is destroyed

He is the bringer of Ragnarok

The end of days is upon us

All will perish in his wake

He is the God of War

It’s better than the review, we’ll give it that. 4/10

The Callisto Protocol poem

The Callisto Protocol. Picture: Skybound Games
The Callisto Protocol. Picture: Skybound Games

The Callisto Protocol is a dark and twisted tale

Of a future where the Earth is a desolate wasteland

And the last humans are fighting for survival

Against an army of ruthless robots

It‘s a story of courage and hope

Of people fighting against all odds

To save humanity from extinction

And it‘s a story that will stay with you

Long after you‘ve turned the last page

It still thinks The Callisto Protocol is a book. 0/10

GTA 6 poem

I can‘t wait for GTA 6,
I‘m so excited to see what’s new.

I hope it‘s even better than GTA 5,

And that it has an amazing story.

I can‘t wait to explore the new city,
And see what kind of trouble I can get into.

I‘m sure it will be a blast,

And I can‘t wait to play it with my friends.

Aw, it was nice of the AI to get its kid to write this one. 6/10

Final Fantasy 16 poem

Final Fantasy 16. Picture: Square Enix

The game has yet to come out

But I can feel the hype and excitement

Building up inside of me

I can‘t wait to explore the world

And meet the characters

I‘m sure I’ll fall in love with

The game is sure to be amazing

And I can‘t wait to see what it has in store

I‘m counting down the days

Until I can finally play

Final Fantasy 16

And we’re back to Mystic Meg levels of vagueness again. 2/10
