A new Elden Ring patch has arrived with quality of life improvements and bug fixes

Elden Ring has been updated to version 1.05, but changes are limited to bug fixes and quality of life improvements.

The Best RPGs of 2022

All-consuming masterpiece Elden Ring has received its first major patch in two months today. Unfortunately, it features relatively few gigantic changes, with zero balance adjustments that aren’t listed as bug fixes. While much of the quality of life improvements and bug fixes will be well-received, the PvP community was expecting larger changes to some of the game’s most powerful weapons and tools.

The most notable changes are to New Game+ access to certain aspects of the game’s main vendor, the Twin Maiden Husk, once they’re unlocked on your first run. This should make upgrading new weapons and spirits used in NG+ runs easier. There’s also a host of bug fixes, ranging from critical – NPCs not spawning – to minor – playability and online stability on specific platforms or rare boss/progression bugs.

Neither of the big problem candidates for PvP, the Bloodhound’s Step and Rivers of Blood abilities, were touched. There’s also complaints brewing that some of the fixes that were made actually help things that were relatively overpowered, as well as removing the ability to stop various cheaters and exploiters.

Of course, for the vast majority of players, those who don’t take part in competitive PvP, these aren’t really notable. The various small problems I faced when playing, usually NPCs failing to spawn and some random usability issues, have now been fixed. It was already a pretty good game even when it was only working as intended 98% of the time, so, well, you know. Still, you have to feel for the dedicated community that feels under-served and ignored.

Elden Ring is out now on consoles and PC, and is really rather good. DLC announcements are expected at some point later this year, as well as game of the year awards in their dozens.
