What’s in your ultimate home?
EVER dreamt how your fantasy home would look like if you became Bill Gates rich? We take a tour around the show homes of our staff if virtual became reality.
CINEMAS, wine cellars and swimming pools are staples for any ultimate home, but unless we win the Powerball or become NBA stars the reality of having that dream abode remains a fantasy.
But there’s nothing wrong with that virtual reality. What if we could build that money-no-object fantasy feature in our made-up mansions, what would it be? Would you gift yourself that Batcave you’ve always wanted or perhaps plant a racetrack in your back garden?
We’ve asked the team at news.com.au to reveal their ultimate add-ons, and they range from the brilliant to bizarre.
Frank Chung, Finance Reporter: Indoor rainforest
Emma Reynolds, Multimedia Editor: Games room, private nightclub, a heated pool and a gigantic wine cellar
Harry Tucker, Technology Reporter: Go Kart track and an unlimited candy bar full of the stuff you get at the movies that always tastes better than if you bought it from the shops.
Wenlei Ma, Finance Editor: An Alice in Wonderland-esque garden complete with hedge maze. And a full-time gardener to take care of it all.
Rob Stott, Morning Editor: A slide from my upstairs bedroom to downstairs
Charlotte Willis, Television Editor: Cher’s revolving wardrobe in Clueless
Mel Hoyer, Editor-at-large: A sunken conversation pit, walk-in wardrobe room and entertainment complex. That’ll do me.
Kate Calacouras, Senior Copy Editor: My own jetty, boat, and boat boy.
Ron Erdos, SEO Expert: A sound system that comes complete with a Hollywood voice-over guy who narrates what you do. You can turn it off, but seriously, why would you?
Rebecca Sullivan, Lifestyle Reporter: A pop-up Oporto that only opens on Sundays (you know, to be healthy).
Jules Delany, General Manager: A real log fire and indoor cricket pitch
Sam Clench, Homepage Editor: A footy stadium in the backyard.
James Billington, Technology Reporter: It’s a coin toss between Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Room or the holodeck from Star Trek.
