This wristband will help you say ‘no’ to junk food

A gadget to help you actually achieve your New Year’s resolutions in 2020 has been unveiled at a Las Vegas tech show.

Annual Consumer Electronics Show kicks off in Las Vegas

Machines that will mix drinks for you and wristbands that will help you say “no” to junk food are just some of the gadgets being showcased this week at the CES technology conference in Las Vegas.

While tech giants like Apple and Google tend to hold their own announcement events, the four-day show, which opened on Tuesday, is a place for companies to unveil their products and services for the coming year.

Streaming services and surveillance technologies are among the hot topics this year, but one wearable gadget could be the trick to finally nailing your New Year’s resolution.

A London start-up has created the DnaNudge, which collects your DNA through a cheek swab and then sends nutrition-related data to a band on your wrist, potentially helping you make healthier diet choices at the supermarket.

Have a genetic predisposition to high blood pressure? Maybe the wristband will tell you to stay away from salty snacks.

Once you’ve scanned the barcode on a food product, the wristband will turn red or green to indicate whether it may be good for you.

While a few services have popped up to map DNA in the hope of helping people make better diet choices, some scientists say genetic makeup is just one of many factors in living a healthy lifestyle.

If you are interested in the DnaNudge, though, a trip to London will be required – as the company only does cheek swabs there.

Another product that could revolutionise the way we eat and prepare food is the Bartesian, a robotic bartender from Ryan Close.

Like a Nespresso coffee machine, pods mix in juices, herbs and other flavourings into gin, whiskey, vodka or tequila.

A touch screen on the machine lets you choose how stiff you want your drink, and there’s even an option for alcohol-free “mocktails”.
