Company will turn your Apple wireless headphones black for a whopping fee
WHEN it comes to accessories, Apple doesn’t deviate from the world-renowned white that is synonymous with the iPod. But perhaps they should start.
THEY may produce great sound, but there’s no denying Apple’s AirPods looks pretty dorky when they’re dangling from your eardrums.
Even if you can stomach the $229 cost, you might not be able to get past the crime of fashion that the AirPods present for some users.
But one company is trying to change that with a simple fix: painting them black.
It might sound like a small thing but for some aesthetically-minded Apple fans, it makes a big difference.
When it comes to Apple accessories, the company doesn’t deviate from the world-renowned white that is synonymous with the advent of the iPod. But perhaps they should start.
If you were lucky enough to get a jet black iPhone 7 and have some left over cash to burn, the Brooklyn-based company BlackPods will give you some AirPods to match.
The company charges $US249 ($329) for a new pair of black AirPods or $US99 ($130) to paint your white ones.
Currently the online store only ships to the United States but given the reaction by many of those online, the idea could take off. And it’s not like it costs much to ship a tiny pair of AirPods to other places around the world.
According to Mashable, the company uses a three-phase “proprietary coating system” to produce a scratch-resistant coat that takes three days to complete, with each pair receiving a handmade finish.
Getting your AirPods painted black will no doubt void their warranty, meaning Apple won’t service them if any issues arise. But sometimes you have to make sacrifices in the name of fashion.
But if you want to spring for a cheaper solution, there are other options like this US start-up that produces coloured protective “skins” for the wireless earpods, for some reason.
