Company wants to produce neural feedback glasses to improve focus and memory

WOULD you wear these glasses to help you study? A company using NASA created technology is hoping you will.

GOOGLE glass was meant to turn us all into walking cyborgs with a permanent internet feed scrolling across our eyes.

However as yet, the public hasn’t quite taken to the idea of strolling around with a cumbersome computer on their face. Undeterred, a small company in the US is producing a different kind of computer based glasses — one that is meant to improve focus and memory.

Think of them as glasses for your brain. And eyes.

To use the device, users strap on a bluetooth armband and put on the glasses. Attached to the frame are three dry sensors, one at the end of each arm and one that extends over the head of the user and casually rests atop their head. The sensors have gold pins that rest on the skin and monitor the activity of the brain.

The neural feedback permitted by the glasses effects the tint of the lenses. When you’re not paying attention, the glasses darken but once you’re focusing on the intended material, the lenses lighten.

According to the company’s website, “by practising keeping the lenses clear, you can learn how to keep your brain functioning at it’s best for longer.”

The glasses come with a corresponding smartphone app consisting of five training programs developed by NASA to measure attention levels in pilots. Once the user switches on the bluetooth armband, they can practice specific areas of brain performance including focus, performance, sleep, calm and mood.

The creators of the glasses say they have been working for ten years to make “neural feedback” available to the public and believe it will allow people to increase their brain performance.

They have turned to kickstarter to solicit the $195,000 required to produce a commercially available product. Thus far they have made nearly $50,000 of their target with 18 days remaining to reach their goal.

There’s every chance they can source the money, getting consumers to buy them might be another story though.
