A leaked memo indicates Apple wants customers to order new products online
A LEAKED memo shows Apple no longer want customers to queue for new products. Instead, they are pushing for a new strategy.
IT seems whenever Apple launch a product there are hordes of people camping out overnight and lining the streets in a hope to be the first to secure the new technology.
However, this practice might become a thing of the past if Apple has anything to do with it.
With the release of the Apple Watch and the 12-inch MacBook with Retina Display just around the corner, Apple retail chief Angela Ahrendts is pushing for a new direction in regards to product launches.
In a memo sent to store staff, she said the company wants customers to avoid their local Apple Store by ordering the products online.
According to Business Insider, the leaked memo implies long queues for Apple products are not entirely welcomed by the company.
“The days of waiting in line and crossing fingers for a product are over for our customers. The Apple Store app and our online store make it much easier to purchase Apple Watch and the new MacBook. Customers will know exactly when and where their product arrives,” the memo read.
“This is a significant change in mindset, and we need your help to make it happen. Tell your customers we have more availability online, and show them how easy it is to order. You’ll make their day.”
The memo is an indication that Apple doesn’t want a repeat of the dramas surrounding the launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 plus.
After the launch, the supply of the new product was so constrained up to half of the demand for the new phones went unfilled.
This meant customers visiting stores in a hope to purchase the new technology often left empty-handed.
Undisclosed sources speaking to Business Insider have said the company has already made it impossible for customers in the UK to purchase the Apple Watch in store.
Customers can still head to their local Apple Store, but the product will be ordered through the company’s internal version of the Apple store and shipped to their home.
The US system will be pushing for a similar model, although customers will still be able to pick up their watch at the store if they wish.
However, Apple is still encouraging customers to order online and get the product delivered to their home address.
Customers hoping to walk into the store to play with products also face bad news with the company giving demonstrations of the Apple Watch through appointment only.
