The Dalai Lama, Alexander Gerst, Elon Musk, Tim Ferriss, awesome Twitter users who will help you change your life
SOMETIMES you just need a bit of a wake up slap to sort you out and there’s a whole heap of inspiration out there on Twitter. Meet the world’s most important, interesting and insightful people.
YOUÂVE dragged yourself out of bed, complained about your commute, slumped in front of your work computer and stared out the window until lunch. Is life all that itÂs cracked up to be?
Sometimes you just need a bit of a wake up slap to sort you out and there’s a whole heap of inspiration out there on Twitter. The world’s most important, interesting and insightful people share snippets of their lives with enviable photos and 140 character words of wisdom (okay, well not everyone) that’ll have you whipping off that work tie and de-glazing those eyes. These are the people who will make you reassess your life:
Don’t get mad, get Dalai. The spiritual leader of the Tibetan people, and Nobel Peace Prize winner, has been an active tweeter for years, offering up calming words and calls for compassion. It’s a Twitter account that really will make you stop and
We need cooperation based on trust and self-confidence to create an open, compassionate, harmonious society.
The quality of our actions, whether they are positive or negative, depends on our motivation. This is why we have to transform our minds.
It’s a big, beautiful world we live in. Next time you’re stressing over a spreadsheet take time to look at Astronaut Alexander Gerst’s Twitter account and remind yourself there’s more to this planet than the desk staring back at you. Currently on a stint on-board the International Space Station he tweets jaw-dropping photos of the Earth taken as he flies across our blue marble. From stunning ocean shots, to vast deserts and photos that put in perspective how tiny each of us really are. He also posts pictures of himself floating about the ISS as he works and it totally makes us wish we had pursued our dreams as a kid of actually becoming that astronaut.
To me, oceans used to be just water. I will never look at them that way again. #BlueDot (Hawke Bay, #NZ) pic.twitter.com/982FcyzYvG
Big picture. I begin to understand how flying into space will change humankind's way of looking at Earth forever. pic.twitter.com/tiu4Z4E5MD

One dream most of us can safely say we never thought about was a career as a sumo wrestler. But after checking out the Twitter account of a stable of sumos we’re ready to drop our jobs, pack on the kilograms and perfect our thigh slap. These guys have a whale of a time regularly uploading photos of their daily antics from hanging out with their mates, having a beer, singing a bit of karaoke, messing about in the sea, having some more beer, eating A LOT, travelling around Japan and having more beer. It’s an interesting career path but it’s not short of that excitement you could be looking for.

Here’s another person that’ll make you wonder how the hell you managed to end up in the rat race. By being rather handy with a camera wildlife and travel photographer Richard Bernabe has an envious Twitter account glistening with jaw-dropping photos from around the world. Jobs like this really do exist where the planet’s most breathtaking backdrops become his office and he jets across the globe to capture them for us to gawp at through a screen. Get that D-SLR you’ve got permanently on ‘auto’ and go see your surroundings in a different light.

Comedians
It’s hard to admit when you’re not funny. It’s even harder for others to take if you persist, so if tumbleweed appears every time you crack a joke it’s time to stop and re-think your Adam Sandler skit and learn from the masters. Twitter is full of witty, genuinely genius nuggets of comedy from the world’s best. Brilliant observational quips and good old fashioned LOLS come perfectly packaged in 140 characters so go ahead, borrow a few.
There are no real standing ovations. Only like three people care. Everyone else just joins in so they don't look bad.

DJs aren't cool. They get paid to do what nerds do every weekend. Put on a wacky outfit, bring a laptop to a party and not talk to anyone.
Billionaire, inventor, entrepreneur and philanthropist. Elon Musk, the man who made his fortune from PayPal and Tesla, has been called a real-life Tony Stark and is now spending his days trying to propel the human race into the future. His SpaceX project has re-designed space shuttles and he’s currently working on getting mankind to Mars. There seems no bounds to Musk’s ambition and by taking a leaf from his work ethic you could shoot for the Moon and end up at Mars too.

Some people have all the luck, don’t they? Or maybe they don’t. Maybe some people know how to get ahead and leave the rest of us spitting out their dust. One such fellow is Tim Ferriss – he’s a self-labelled life hacker who has worked out how to make his life more efficient and his bank account weightier. He’s written best-selling books on streamlining life called the 4-hour work week, and Escape 9-5. Being one of those people who just seem limitless to what they can do he also adds to his impressive life resume the ability to speak five languages, world records, and a kickboxing championship. This guy is a doer, try to do the same.

Making the incomprehensible comprehensible is the mesmerising Neil deGrasse Tyson, an Astrophysicist and shining star of explaining the baffling subject of the universe. His Twitter feed is the result of his brilliant brain spilling out sense in 140 characters. It’s a brain you could listen to for hours and will blow open how you understand and see things about physics and the mysteries of the cosmos. As we coo over his gems of wisdom it has the strange effect of us wishing we had paid more attention at school while at the same time not making us feel dumb.
So much of life is wasted waiting in line: stores, traffic, security, etc. One hour per day sums to 5 yrs of your waking life
The @UPS tracking uses 17 digits & one letter. Enough for 2.6 quintillion packages. That's 370 million per person on Earth.
Seasons are caused by the 23.5-degree tilt in Earth’s axis. Without it, fashion would need a different excuse to change.
It’s easy to forget how trivial somethings are. Because it’s healthy for all of us to remind ourselves of the more important things here’s Kim Kardashian like a dose of smelling salts to help reassess the things we should be worry about.
