OPPO Pad 2 Review: Impressive specs on new, larger tablet
OPPO has released a new product that puts an unexpected twist on the evolving tablet market, and I reckon they’re onto something.
The latest mobile device released by OPPO has put a new twist on the standard tablet, so I was keen to check it out first hand.
The first thing that caught my attention was the screen size. With a 7:5 aspect ratio, the OPPO Pad 2 is trying something new in the marketplace where 16:10 is the norm.
OPPO chose the design to make it more like other office tools — A4 paper and books for example.
This adds up to about 10 per cent extra viewing area which makes the 11.61-inch screen feel enormous. The specs are definitely improved on the previous model.
The tablet has a resolution of 2800x2000 which is worth it on the large screen.
It also has a 144Hz refresh rate, which is also featured on high-end devices (and more expensive) like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra and Apple iPad Pro 12.9.
The sound is blasted out via four symmetrical-placed speakers with 8.0cc sound cavities, which is designed for a theatre-like experience.
Beneath the hood is the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chip set, which I’ve heard is analogous to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This is really top-end CPU and GPU technology, with AI incorporated.
Battery
The battery, as usual with OPPO products, is extremely impressive.
I charged it to full quickly with the 67W SUPERVOOC flash charger from zero to 100 per cent in less than 1.5 hours.
OPPO says the 9510mAh battery that can support up to 12.4 hours of continuous video playback — and it lived up to that promise.
Due to life being... life, I was forced to let the tablet do a bit of parent time for my four-year-old this week. She is a voracious tablet user and thrashed out a lot of content on my preferred parental control app iWawa. After three heavy days of use by both myself and the little one, the OPPO Pad 2 was still sitting an incredible 39 per cent. That’s a way better performance that my ageing Samsung workhorse.
Other tools
It comes with a sleek OPPO Pencil, plus the Smart Touchpad Keyboard. This means you can easily convert it into a laptop, making an exceptionally useful work tool, especially when you’re out with little space in your backpack.
The keyboard retails for $159 and the pencil $79.
My take
OPPO has been knocking it out of the park with its cutting-edge and affordable products and it’s great news for consumers that it is continuing the trend with the OPPO Pad 2.
The fast-charging and long-life battery alone make it worth the purchase — and the solid specs certainly seal the deal in my book.
I reckon it’s time for an upgrade.
